BloomBURP

Visited Bloomberg this afternoon for a short one-hour introductory course.

The course was not dull; I was really impressed with the numerous functions the Bloomberg Terminal has! Sleek screens, colorful screens and colorful keyboard that comes with onboard speakers and several shortcut keys.

The terminal I used this afternoon doesn't have the cool transparent-like stem that holds the dual monitors, but other than that, everything else looks just as good!

What really earns the "WOW" from most visitors is the pantry though. If there is only one word given to describe it, it would be: well-stocked! It's just like a mini super-mart. There is a long shelf (around shoulder-level tall) displaying racks of neatly placed foods like museli bars, mini MARS bars, mini M&Ms, Twisties, chips, biscuits, chocolates and sweets. Standing against the wall are 2 fridges (like those you see in 7-11) housing an assortment of drinks - Fruit Trees, Meiji milk, Magnolia milk, Yakult, Pokka coffee, canned Milo and many other types of soft drinks. For coffee addicts, there is also a coffee dispenser around the corner. There is also a space with tables & chairs for people to eat their food.

The pantry in Singapore resembles the one above. The differences lie only in the color of the shelf (SG's all white) and the color of the chairs (also all white for SG's).

Generally the company presents a pristine white, open environment with a rather casual ambience. In fact, the pantry is just next to the office spaces. There were also a number of LCD TVs hung on the walls and booming away financial news from BBC (I think). I can't imagine how those staffs work with all those visitors chatting and walking about, and the TVs blasting away.

Oh I gotta mention about their security too. The minute I step out of the lift lobby, I was greeted by a security lady. Since the office holds a lot of trainings in that particular level, there are a couple of security personnel on the floor, mainly ensuring that visitors had a visitor pass and guiding them the way to the appropriate areas. Very polite people, they are even dressed in suits & ties! In fact, they are the most well-dressed in the entire office! Haha. I was then requested to stand at the reception area and have my picture taken and printed on an ad-hoc security pass. One of my fellow attendees was even a little upset at having to return the colored-printed paper pass after the course :-p

For today's course, attendees were each treated to a O'Briens sandwich. This is the first time I had an O'Briens - Turkey Cranberry. Sandwiched between 2 slices of wholemeal bread were turkey slices, tomato, cranberry sauce and crunchy coleslaw. Quite delicious! Definitely better than Subway! With square-shaped breads & tightly packed stuffings, you won't be faced with dripping mustard sauce or soggy bread and sticky fingers! My choice for a healthy yummy meal in the theatres!!!
