Head-on collision
I collided into a young girl at ECP last Sunday afternoon. She was moving towards me in her bicycle, and I was moving towards her in my skates. Both of us weren't really traveling very fast, but I suspected that she was moving faster than me. We saw each other from a distance of about 50 meters away. Tempest tried clapping using the slippers he had with him, to grasp the attention of the little girl. The girl seemingly saw me, then turned to look at her friend, then turned back to see me ramming into her. It was too late for Tempest to pull me away.As we approached each other, I clutched on to her bike handles, and stopped the bike. At this instant, my left cheek knocked into her forehead. Then we both fell down. Tempest hurried to the little girl (instead of mine!?) to see if she was injured. The little girl's face was red and her eyes were brimming with tears, though she didn't cry. It must had been a hard knock for her. Her father another little girl who were traveling with her stopped to look after her, constantly asking if she was alright. But she merely kept quiet and murmured that her head got knocked into.
A patrol unit was nearby and also stopped to help. After a while, when we ascertained that the girl was ok, we continued along our way.
Sigh, it was the type of accident that I feared the most. A similar incident happened sometime back. I was riding a bicycle in Pasir Ris Park. I couldn't control my speed and direction very well then, so I was almost on the verge of ramming into a little kid about 4 or 5 years of age who was squatting by a corner. The kid saw me coming, and it refused to budge. I couldn't remember if I had to do a sudden brake or swerve to one corner and then fell off the bike.
Luckily this girl I collided into was not a puny little bundle. She was probably 10 - 12 years old, and riding a middle-sized bike. It was consoling to learn that she was on the wrong side of the road, making my case of not being able to shift to one side to avoid the accident less guilty.
